Hugging Porcupines

Have you been there? Knowing you should love this person and trying to wrap your noble affections around a person who is really defensive? How do you hug a porcupine? Three things I think are important. 1. Have plenty of padding on. 2. Move gently towards the beast. 3. Don’t apply too much pressure at one time.
Before I go any further, is there another one you would add?

Be prepared to back away if need be…don’t turn your back on the creature.
